Asante Kotoko goalkeeper, Felix Annan, emerged as the Most Valuable Player in the Ashanti Regional derby of the ongoing improvised Ghana league competition at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, yesterday.
The Reds built on their rebound Match Day Three 3-0 road victory over winless Techiman Eleven Wonders played at the Nkoranza Children’Park, Sunday, following their Week 2 0-1 loss to formidable homeside, Medeama, at Tarkwa.
Two second half goals from improved striker Abdul Fatau Safiu gave the Porcupines the bragging rights over their regional rivals.
Felix Annan topped that performance, making spectacular saves in both halves of the game to deny pressing Ashanti Gold and keep Kotoko on top, the result taking Kotoko to the summit of the Northern Zone of the competition with three wins out of four matches.
Annan has kept three clean sheets in four matches of the competition, heading into a tricky Week 5 tie against homeside, Bechem United looking for a rebound win following a 2-3 loss to 1-0 conquerors of Kotoko, Medeama.
The fabulous goalkeeper was part of Black Stars head coach, Kwasi Appiah‘s team that beat the Harambee Stars of Kenya 1-0 last month in the final phase of the 2019 AFCON qualifiers. That happened to be the second time Annan was making the Black Stars team after a call-up last year.
In the Ghana friendly against Mauritania at the Accra Sports Stadium – following the Kenya match – Annan made his debut.
Again, Annan was among the top performers in the Kotoko team that reached the 2018/19 CAF Confederation cup group stage.
The impressive safe pair of hands has been tipped to make the squad for Ghana during the Egypt 2019 AFCON tournament scheduled to start mid-June.
