Pre-match quotes: Ghana vs Kenya
HIGHLY MOTIVATED: Ghana coach, Yusif Basigi and his captain, Safia Rahman Abdul

David Ouma (Head Coach, Kenya)

We are excited to be here for the first time. It is always a dream for every team. Kenya is growing as far as women’s football is concerned and we are here to enjoy the moment. We have prepared sufficiently thanks to the support of the Football Kenya Federation, which gave us equal support as the male teams. This competition will create more opportunities for my players to showcase their talents. I’m very motivated and so are the players.

Ghana being here for the last eight times means they were doing things right and this time round, we (Kenya) also got things right and that is why we are here. In this competition, the best team plays the best. We are excited in a better way and you can never feel intimidated when you qualify for a competition of this nature.

Anne Alouch (Captain, Kenya)

We are very happy to be here and being here is very motivating because women in Kenya will now see sports as a tool for employment. We respect our opponents Ghana and Nigeria, because they have been here before. We believe in ourselves and are going to perform.

Yusif Basigi (Head Coach, Ghana)

We have one commitment – the ultimate. Notwithstanding, we have to respect every opponent since the best way to beat an opponent is by respecting them. It won’t be easy but trust Ghana to rise up in the end.

Winning the African Games in Brazzaville (in 2015) serves a morale booster for this tournament and all the teams will be looking at Ghana. We have learnt from our mistakes of 2014 (where Ghana failed to go past the group stage) and it won’t happen again.

Kenya will be tough. We don’t know much about them but we know what it takes to play a tournament of this nature.

We want to write our own piece of history by winning the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations for the first time. We won the African Games for the first time in our history in 2015 and are highly motivated to win the Women’s AFCON too for the very first time.

Safia Rahman Abdul (Captain, Ghana)

We are not going to underestimate any team. The competition will be tough but I’m certain we will come out tops. We just have to play according to the coaches instructions, and will be fine.
