“Football alone cannot enjoy all the resources while the players are not winning any laurels to justify the huge investments being made in them,” he said at a meeting with the GOC president, Mr Ben Nunoo Mensah, at the GOC secretariat, last Thursday.
On the development of sports at the grassroots, Dr Sarpong said funds should be made available to organise schools sports to unearth and hone talents for the country.
The GNPC boss expressed his desire to see sports facilities constructed across the length and breadth of Ghana to ensure the development and promotion of the various disciplines.“Sports facilities must be dotted around the country and not only in the regional capitals.
“When facilities are placed in the villages, the youth would not rush to the big towns for greener pastures and choke the cities.“Their contributions can bring development to the deprived areas,” he said.

Mr Nunoo Mensah expressed appreciation to Dr Sarpong, and promised to maintain cordial relations with the petroleum company as a major partner for sports development in Ghana.
