Asante Kotoko coach Charles Akonnor says he is proud of his players, inspite of the team’s failure to make it to the quarterfinals of the CAF Confederation Cup competition.
Kotoko took the lead against hosts, Zesco Utd in the last Group C match, yesterday, yet surrendered it almost immediately.
Two defensive errors cost them after Stephen Nyarko had shot them into the lead on the stroke of half time losing 1-2, ending their season’s continental campaign.
The Porcupines needed to overcome Zesco Utd in order to seal a quarterfinal berth after blowing up the chance to do so in their penultimate game against Al Hilal in Kumasi, two Sundays, ago.
During his presser, coach Akonnor pin-pointed that script could have been written differently had they defended better.
“The goals we conceded since we started this campaign has (sic) been a major problem and it has affected us.
“Honestly, we’ve lost bitterly but I must say I’m proud of the boys.
“Today is the end of the journey, and hopefully, we’ll learn from this campaign and come back stronger,” concluded Akonnor.
