Asante Kotoko chief executive officer, George Amoako, has dismissed speculations that the head coach, C. K. Akonnor, is facing the sack following the club’s exit from the 2018/19 CAF Confederation Cup.
The Ghanaian giants failed to progress from the group stage to the quarterfinal of the competition after a 2-1 defeat to Zesco United at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Ndola.
Rumours emerged in the local media that the management of Kotoko is considering to hire another gaffer for the club, since the former Wolfsburg captain failed to secure a quarterfinal berth.
However, the experienced football administrator has come to the aid of the under-fire coach to rubbish the rumours.
“Nobody has said Akonnor will be sacked. We should stop all these speculations. Who said he hasn’t done well? Forget it,” said George Amoako on Happy FM, yesterday.
“He has done well for bringing the team … this far. Just look at how he picked the boys and the team from.
“… We have learned a lot and C. K. has done well with the team,” he concluded.
The former Hearts of Oak coach guided Asante Kotoko to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup after five months into his three-year contract with the club.
His team, Asante Kotoko, placed third with seven points behind leaders Al Hilal and Nkana FC which have progressed to the quarterfinals of the CAF Confed cup competition.
