Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland wants to move to Real Madrid, according to reports
In-demand Borussia Dortmund ace Erling Haaland favours a move to Real Madrid over a host of other interested clubs, according to reports.
The Norwegian frontman has attracted attention from both Manchester City and Manchester United – and Madrid are also in the race in the big-money transfer saga.
Marca have claimed, however, that Haaland has chosen the reigning LaLiga champions as his preferred future destination.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola reiterated that he had no regrets in losing Jadon Sancho to Dortmund.
The report states that the club have identified Haaland and Paris Saint-Germain talisman Kylian Mbappe as potential recruits to overhaul their strike force.
Having joined Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in late 2019, Haaland is said to have focused on taking up his next move, depending on his form, in the summer of 2022.
His eye-catching exploits in front of goal have brought forward this deadline, though, with a number of elite European teams keen to swoop.
Zinedine Zidane and the Madrid hierarchy are said to be aware of Haaland’s desire to join them
Madrid are believed to be aware of Haaland’s determination to join them – with negotiations seemingly now looming between the two parties.
Mino Raiola, the 20-year-old’s representative, is thought to be open to brokering the switch to Spain.
City and United are not likely to give up the chase, though. Sportsmail understands contact has already been made between the Etihad and Haaland’s camp.
United will struggle to stump up a suitable figure to pull off the switch, meanwhile, with Haaland’s £90m buyout clause needing to be paid in one instalment.
Mino Raiola, Haaland’s agent, is claimed to be keen on helping the in-form ace move to Madrid
Chelsea also have the resources to pull off the sensational transfer when Haaland, as expected, chooses to walk away from Dortmund in the coming months.
The prolific frontman has caught the eye after scoring 31 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions so far this season.
It has also been suggested by Marca that it will be ‘easier’ for Madrid to seal a deal for Haaland, rather than attempting to prise Mbappe away from PSG.
The Ligue 1 giants are preparing to hand Mbappe a huge £25million annual salary to tie his future down with them, reports in France have recently indicated.
Madrid are also interested in PSG star Kylian Mbappe, but he is in line for a new deal in France
World Cup winner Mbappe has insisted he will not rush into a decision – and Marca say he is aware Madrid likely ‘await’ him in a future switch down the line.
The Madrid hierarchy are believed to have privately admitted that both highly-coveted starlets are likely to be offered bigger financial packages by other clubs.
But they remain hopeful a deal can be done with either, with Madrid hoping to sell the idea of pulling on the club’s famed jersey as an opportunity not to be missed.
