Madrid not concerned with Gomes’ Barca move

The deal between Valencia and Real Madrid for Andre Gomes seemed all but complete, but then arch rivals Barcelona swooped in to hijack the move.

Real Madrid club officials speak daily with the coaching staff whilst on the pre-season tour in Montreal and all are calm regarding the team’s strategies and intentions.

Coach Zinedine Zidane was keen on the 22-year-old Portuguese midfielder but did not fit him into his starting XI plans and to pay 50 million euros for a player that wouldn’t start regularly was unthinkable for President Florentino Perez.

Casemiro, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Mateo Kovacic, Isco and James Rodriguez are all midfielders with quality and the door is not closed for a new central-midfield player to sign.

As Juventus’ Paul Pogba and Manchester United are in limbo over a contract of 120 million, it is still possible that Real Madrid could land the French star.

The 23-year-old Pogba admitted his dream is to play at the Santiago Bernabeu and an even stronger pull could be that his childhood hero in Zidane would be his new coach should he choose Los Blancos.
