MANCHESTER CITY and Everton are moving closer to a deal for John Stones after re-opening talks over the England defender.
Now the clubs could thrash out a compromise along the lines of the deal City struck with Liverpool for Raheem Sterling last summer when they paid £44m up front plus £5m in add-ons.Stones has been ruled out of Everton’s friendly against his former club Barnsley today (Sat) due to a knee injury with club officials insisting his absence has nothing to do with the on-going summer transfer saga.

IN DEMAND: Manchester City are approaching a deal with Everton for John Stones

Guardiola has already splashed out this summer on Germany midfielder Ilkay Gundogan for £21m from Borussia Dortmund and Spanish winger Nolito in a £13.8m deal from Celta. The Spaniard is also on the trail of West Ham wonderkid Reece Oxford and has admitted he would love to bring Schalke and Germany winger Leroy Sane.

And despite stepping up his pursuit of Stones, Guardiola could yet move for Juventus and Italy centre-back Leonardo Bonucci.
