“Well, you know, I’m here to tell you that I don’t know. But me, myself, I do believe that he will come back and have one more fight. I mean, I’m not saying so much as just to fight, I’m talking about breaking Rocky Marciano’s record. I think he can do it.”
Then when asked about Danny Garcia as a potential opponent (since that name has been floated around), Mayweather Sr responded:
“We’d have to see about that, but I’m just telling you right now though. In the fight, Garcia gets beat. You heard that from me. He might be a good fighter, but he ain’t as good as Floyd…”
“If I was my son, I wouldn’t even give him another fight because he said lies about how my son won the fight. Talking about his arm, something wrong with arm, weren’t nothing wrong with his arm. Floyd clearly beat him, everybody saw that and everybody knows that. If they fight again, his arm gonna be hurt again, OK.”
In the meantime Mayweather Jr. has been consistently saying that he’s happy in his retirement and only focusing on his work as a promoter.
Whether or not he’ll eventually lace ’em up again remains to be seen.
