CLUB LEGEND AND FORMER COACH OF ASANTE KOTOKO, MICHAEL OSEI, HAS THROWN HIS SUPPORT BEHIND CURRENT EMBATTLED COACH, C. K. AKONNOR.
The Black Meteors assistant gaffer has backed Akonnor to disprove his doubters and prove his technical ingenuity in Kotoko’s crucial CAF Confederation Cup return fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium, tomorrow.
“Akonnor is a competent coach and knows what to do to grab all the points on Sunday,” declares Osei.
“I trust his technical ingenuity will aid the team to win,” assured Osei, in a bid to calm the nerves of anxious fans of the Porcupine Warriors, ahead of their crucial Group C battle against Nkana FC in Kumasi, tomorrow.
The Porcupines begin the second round after being ambushed 3-1 by Nkana FC, last Sunday, in Kitwe, Zambia.
That result puts Kotoko in a precarious position, lying fourth with three points from three matches while Nkana FC lead the log with six.
Nonetheless, the former tactician of Asante Kotoko, Michael Osei, believes Kotoko would be able to qualify to the next stage of the competition.
“Kotoko is capable of qualifying from the group despite lying on the fourth position because technically, they’re the best among the teams in Group C.
“All they need is encouragement from their supporters.
“The team has done so well, and I expect the supporters to minimize pressure and criticisms.
“There is no competitive football in the country. Therefore, they need commendation rather than condemnation.”
Nkana FC lost 0-2 in their sole road game in the group, so far, to fellow Zambian side, Zesco Utd.
Incidentally, Kotoko conquered a game Zesco Utd side 2-1, two weeks ago at the same Baba Yara Stadium, where they seek vengeance against Nkana FC who pulled the lion’s tail, last Sunday.
