Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne has revealed how manager Jurgen Klopp has masterminded their great start to the season.
The Reds lie fourth in the Premier League, and know that a victory against Manchester United on Monday night would propel them to equal points with leaders Manchester City.
‘He is building confidence in the team and helping us believe we can do anything,’ the England international has told the Daily Mail.
According to Clyne, this improvement from last season has had a lot to do with their coach – whose man-management and harsh pre-season have pushed the squad on to new heights.
‘It’s his man-management. He makes us believe we can win every match. He makes us believe we will work harder than our opponents, play better than our opponents — that’s what he does.
He added on their tough pre-season: ‘I’d certainly say pre-season is up there as one of the most intensive I’ve had.
‘We all know our jobs and it’s paying off. He has us bouncing. Everyone is enjoying it, everyone is buzzing around the place.’
‘And bear in mind I was away until halfway through because of the Euros. It was tough, but it is paying off.
‘We had double sessions. One in the morning without the football and then one in the afternoon with the football.
‘Even triple sessions sometimes. Early morning, afternoon and then another at night. It was tough.
‘It’s a long season and it’s only just started. We just need to keep putting in performances and we could have a chance to win the title.’
With Tottenham coming up for the Merseyside outift after clashes against United and West Brom, the next few weeks could show if Clyne’s optimism about their title chances is well-founded.
