Whistles for Pique from fans at Spain training session

There were plenty of whistles from fans when Gerard Pique ran out to train with his Spain teammates at Las Rozas in Madrid.

A hostile response was expected due to Pique’s backing of a Catalan independence referendum and he was subjected to some abuse from supporters, many of whom were wearing the red and yellow of Spain.

‘Pique, bastard, leave the the national team’ read a banner and another said ‘ Pique: Spain is your nation’.

Coach Lopetegui also received some whistles for having called up the Barcelona centre-half who appeared relaxed and unconcerned.
