Bastian Schweinsteiger linked with Sporting move

Sporting have emerged as a contender to sign Bastian Schweinsteiger from Manchester United, according to reports.

Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã claims that the 32-year-old’s agent is holding talks with Sporting on Tuesday, with the midfielder potentially available on a free transfer.

The Portuguese club view the Germany international as a replacement for Adrien Silva, whose agent has confirmed that a move to Leicester City is imminent.

Last week, Jose Mourinho admitted that that it would be ‘very difficult’ for Schweinsteiger to feature for United this season.

The midfielder has been forced to train with United’s reserve team following Mourinho’s arrival at Old Trafford.

Schweinsteiger is currently on international duty with Germany and is set to appear in a farewell match against Iceland on August 31.
