Barcelona’s match against Getafe this weekend will see Quique Setien take on Jose Bordalas once again.
The two coaches have met 10 times over their coaching careers, with Bordalas winning on six occasions, with Setien winning twice and with two draws.
After some of his losses, Setien has reacted very negatively to the style of football of Bordalas‘ teams and this has created a touchline rivalry.
It all started in 2013 when Setien was with Lugo and Bordalas with Alcorcon.
“We lost to a team that didn’t deserve to win,” Setien said after the Galician side were defeated.
“I don’t like to see players waste time.
“Of the teams near the top of the table, I hope Alcorcon don’t win promotion because it hurts to watch them.
“They’re a tough team because they don’t play football and don’t allow others to.
“They interrupt the game and waste time.”
Bordalas responded and labelled these remarks as a lack of respect, even calling for the footballing authorities to take action.
Several years later, with Bordalas at Getafe and Setien at Real Betis, the current Barcelona coach criticised his opposite number again after a loss.
“It was shameful, Getafe are the team who commit the most fouls,” he said.
“It’s not football, it’s something else.”
