The drama surrounding Raheem Sterling took another fresh twist today, as the controversial midfielder missed Liverpool training.
It has been reported that the 20-year-old – who has told his club he WON’T travel to the Far East and Australia for a pre-season tour beginning on Monday – phoned in sick before the session.
Liverpool will now investigate Sterling’s claims by following the usual club practice of sending a doctor to check him over, before deciding on their next actions. Standard procedure in these cases is to have a thorough medical check, and the club must go through that process before they can decide on the winger’s fitness.
There will be massive scepticism amongst the Anfield faithful, who are already angered by the player’s apparent determination to leave the club and force a move to Manchester City.
That will only be exacerbated by the news that Sterling told manager Brendan Rodgers in a meeting that he didn’t want to travel to Bangkok to join the club’s pre-season tour, as reported by MirrorFootball yesterday.
It now seems certain City will deliver a third bid for the England international, and clearly the player is hoping that will arrive before the weekend, when Liverpool are due to fly out to the Far East.
