One of the most promising players in European football currently is Marco Verratti. The Italian, who was sorely missed by Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of the Champions League quarters against Barcelona, praised Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti in an interview with L’Equipe.

“I was 18 and was going through a difficult period when I worked with him. But Ancelotti helped me both on and off the pitch. He showed me how to conduct myself. He was like a father to me. He’s a fantastic person and creates strong relationships with his players”.

When the French paper asked the player who he preferred out of Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi, he replied: “I’ve played against great players like Ronaldo, but I love watching the way Messi is on the ball and his style of play”.

On being compared to Andrea Pirlo: “He’s won everything: the World Cup, the Champions League. It’s an honour to be compared to him. I hope I have such a good career. But our styles of play are different”.
