Cristiano Ronaldo has been the poster boy for sportswear giant Nike since signing his first deal with them way back in 2003.
In the 15 years that have followed he has worn more than 70 different boots adorned with the brand’s iconic swoosh en route to becoming one of the best football players in the history of the game.
In November 2016 he signed a ‘lifetime’ deal with Nike, becoming only the third athlete to do so along with basketball royalty Michael Jordan and LeBron James. The deal’s value is similar to James’ – with the NBA superstar’s agreement earning him in the region of $1bn (£770m).

But in a statement distributed on Thursday, Nike have admitted they are ‘deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations’ now facing the Portuguese superstar.
Kathryn Mayorga, a 34-year-old teacher, claims Ronaldo raped her in a bathroom at the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas in the early hours of June 13, 2009 and police in Las Vegas have now reopened the investigation.

Ronaldo vehemently denies the allegations, insisting rape is ‘an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in’ in a statement released in recent days.
The following is a chart of the lucrative partnership between Ronaldo and Nike that is now in doubt and the many different boots he has worn through his glittering career so far.
2003 – Mercurial Vapor – Cristiano Ronaldo becomes a Nike athlete by penning a deal with the sportswear giant while playing for Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon.

2009 – Mercurial Vapor Superfly – Debuts this boot and clinches his third Premier League title with the Red Devils. He finished the campaign with 26 goals in all competitions, 16 goals fewer than the previous season, in four more appearances.
2009 – Mercurial Vapor Superfly – Signs for Real Madrid and scores on his debut. He went on to become the first-ever player to score in his first four La Liga appearances and set the scene for what was to come in his time in the Spanish capital.

2010 – Mercurial Superfly II – Wears the second release of the Superfly series in March 2010, during a 3-2 thrilling derby victory over Atletico Madrid.
2010 – Mercurial Vapor Superfly II CR – This was the first boot to be part of Ronaldo’s signature range with Nike and he went on to score a total of 19 goals in them.
2011 – Mercurial Superfly III – In these vibrant boots Ronaldo managed to score in home and away legs of the Champions League quarter final as he inspired Los Blancos past Tottenham.
2011 – Mercurial Vapor Superfly III CR – Ronaldo scored the most amount of goals in a single boot in these. He wore them for the first time in the second El Clasico of the season. He went on to score the winning goal in the Copa Del Rey final and a total of 20 goals.
2011 – Mercurial Vapor Superfly III CR – The signature colour scheme of this range. Ronaldo wore these during a November 2011 Madrid derby game in which he proved the difference again by scoring twice.
2012 – Mercurial Vapor VIII – Proved to be another thorn in Atletico’s side as he scored a hat-trick in a derby in April 2012 and reached 40 league goals in the season, making him the only player in La Liga history to score 40 goals in his first two campaigns.

2012 – Mercurial Vapor VIII – Entered Real Madrid folklore when he wore these boots to claim his first La Liga title since joining. It was their first title in four years and they lifted the trophy with a record 100 points.
2012 – Mercurial Vapor VIII CR – After humiliating Real’s city rivals, Ronaldo turned his attention to Barcelona and scored two goals in the season’s first El Clasico in these. It made him him the first and only player to score in six consecutive matches against their Catalan rivals.

2013 – Mercurial Vapor IX CR – Ronaldo released another boot in his signature Nike range against Barcelona. Once again he inflicted maximum damage, netting his 100th away goal in his 106 away appearances for Los Blancos.
2014 – Mercurial Vapor IX CR – Gained more individual glory by winning the 2013 Ballon d’Or award. He was also averaging a goal a game and became the quickest player in Madrid’s history to score 200 goals.
2014 – Mercurial Superfly IV – After enormous success at club level, Ronaldo started to make strides for his country and scored his 50th goal for Portugal. He also became the first Portuguese player to play and score in three World Cup tournaments.
2014 – Mercurial Superfly IV CR7 – In December 2014, Ronaldo scored a hat-trick in his 178th league game to become the fastest player in La Liga history to score 200 goals. More trophies followed as Ronaldo won his second FIFA Club World Cup title in Marrakech.
2015 – Mercurial Superfly IV CR7 SE – Further individual glory came for Ronaldo as he collected the 2014 Ballon d’Or. That victory saw him join icons Johan Cruyff, Michel Platini, and Marco van Basten as a three-time Ballon d’Or winner.

2015 – Mercurial Superfly IV CR7 Silverware – These boots represented goals, goals and more goals for Ronaldo. For the first time in his career, he scored five goals in one game, including an eight-minute hat-trick, in a 9–1 rout of Granada. In the same month he scored his 300th goal for the club and smashed the club’s hat-trick record with his 29th treble.
2015 – Mercurial Superfly IV CR7 324K – A momentous boot for Ronaldo as he became Real Madrid’s all-time top scorer. He surpassed club legend Raul when he scored the second in a 3–0 win over Levante at the Bernabeu, aptly netting his 324th goal in 311 games.
2015 – Mercurial Superfly IV CR7 Savage Beauty – This was when Nike and Ronaldo’s partnership stepped up another notch as they released CR7 Chapter 1, the first in a series of seven chapter boots.

He wore them for the first time in the Champions League final, where he scored the winning penalty against Atletico in Milan for his second continental trophy at Madrid. Later that summer he then captained Portugal to the Euro 2016 trophy, despite coming off injured in the 1-0 win over hosts France in the final.

2016 – Mercurial Superfly V CR7 Discovery – Chapter 3 is inspired by the man-of-the-match performance Ronaldo delivered for Sporting against Manchester United that won him his move to Old Trafford. He caught Sir Alex Ferguson’s eye and he signed him straight after the game.
2017 – Mercurial Superfly V CR7 Forged For Greatness – Chapter 4 is based on Ronaldo’s United debut, wearing the famous No 7 shirt to launch the now iconic CR7 brand. The heel features the Roman numerals for 28, XXVIII, which is the shirt he wore when he was spotted in Lisbon.
2017 – Mercurial Superfly V CR7 Cut to Brilliance – Chapter 5 is based on the Mercurial boot he wore when he first arrived at Real Madrid and is said to be a follow on from the ‘raw diamond design’ of Chapter 2.
2018 – Mercurial Superfly V CR7 Born Leader – Chapter 6 is focused on Portugal and the turquoise colour is said to represent Portugal’s previous away kits. A ‘C’ for Cristiano is stitched on the exterior of the boot inside a nautical device in tribute to his nation’s maritime history.
2018 – Mercurial Superfly V CR7 Built on Dreams – Chapter 7 is the final boot in the collection and aims to highlight Ronaldo’s achievements to date. The boot features graphics in the forefoot, the sole, and the heel, all of which reference Ronaldo’s shirt number 7.
