Nigerian strikers in red-hot form

Ahmed Musa and Ikechukwu Uche both netted braces to help their respective clubs, CSKA Moscow and Villarreal, record important wins in Russia and Spain.

Musa’s rich vein of form for club and country will certainly put smiles on the faces of the CSKA Moscow faithful and coach, Leonid Slutsky, especially with a potentially difficult Uefa Champions’ League game against Manchester City to come on Tuesday.

Uche continues to do his talking on the pitch following his consistent snub by Nigeria and he smacked home a double to help Villarreal beat Almeria 2-0 at Camp El Madrigal.

The good news continued for Nigerian football fans as Victor Moses made his return from injury in Stoke City’s 2-1 win over Swansea City at the Brittania in the Barclays English Premier League.

Bartholomew Ogbeche and Abiola Dauda continued with their rich vein of goal scoring form in the Eredivisie with respective strikes for SC Cambuur and Vitesse.

England (Premier League)

Victor Moses is back after suffering of a thigh injury that ruled him out of Nigeria’s last two internationals against Sudan.

Moses played for 73 minutes in Stoke City’s 2-1 win over Swansea City at the Brittannia Stadium.

Omatsone Aluko impressed during Nigeria’s 2-1 win over Sudan last Wednesday.

The rigours of the Premier League game against Arsenal at the Emirates came too soon for the injury-prone winger though as he was rested by the Hull City trainer, Steve Bruce.

Germany (Bundesliga)

Anthony Ujah was overlooked by the Cologne coach, Peter Stöger in the big game against former champions, Borussia Dortmund at RheinEnergieStadion.

The disappointed 24-year-old watched the entire game from the bench as Cologne triumphed 2-1 following goals from Kevin Vogt and Simon Voller.

In Gelsekirchen, Chinedu Obasi is adapting to life under Schalke’s new Italian manager, Roberto Di Matteo who has since been appointed Jen Keller’s replacement.

On Saturday, Obasi played for five minutes as he replaced Cameroun’s Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting in Schalke’s 2-1 success over Herta BSC at the Veltins-Arena.

Italy (Serie A)

Ogenyi Onazi started from the SS Lazio bench in the club’s 2-0 win over Fiorentina at Stadio Artemio Franchi.

The Nigerian midfielder replaced Stefano Mauri after 58 minutes.

Joel Obi made a rare start for Internazionale in the 2-2 draw against Napoli at the Stadio Guiseppe Meazza, Milano.

Obi was hooked after 57 minutes with Ibrahima Mbaye taking his place.

Spain (Primera División)

Success Isaac was not listed for Granada in the 0-1 loss to Rayo Vallecano at Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes.

Ikechukwu Uche continues to impress at Villarreal and on Sunday, he scored a brace to help the Yellow Submarine drown Almeria 2-0 at Camp El Madrid.

Ramon Azeez started the game for Almeria but was substituted after 68 minutes.

France (Ligue 1)

Vincent Enyeama has now conceded five goals in his last two league appearances for OSC Lille.

After shipping three against Olympique Lyonnaise just before the last round of internationals, Enyeama conceded twice as Les Douges lost 1-2 to En Avant Guingamp at Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Elderson Echiejile was not listed for AS Monaco in the 2-0 win over Evian Thonnon Gaillard at Stade Louis II.

The Netherlands (Eredivisie)

Abiola Dauda continues to do good things in the Eredivisie for Vitesse and he duly netted in the club’s 4-1 success against Willem II at Koning Willem II Stadion.

It was his fifth league goal of the season.

Another Nigerian doing remarkable things in the Eredivisie is the former Super Eagles striker, Bartolomew Ogbeche who is now the league’s second top goal scorer.

Ogbeche scored his sixth league goal of the season as SC Cambuur drew 2-2 at SC Heerenveen.

Turkey (Süper Lig)

Gbenga Arokoyo was on for all 90 minutes for Gaziantepspor in the club’s 1-0 win over Karabükspor at Kamil Ocak Stadyumu.

John Chibuike was also in action for the victors but was substituted after minutes.

Joseph Akpala was drafted in as a second half substitute for Karabükspor who continue to swim in the murky waters of relegation.

Emmanuel Emenike is currently enduring a very lean spell for club and country.

The big forward was hurled off early in the second of the big clash against Galatasaray as Fernabahce lost at the Turk Telecom Arena.

John Utaka and Chrisantus Macauley both started for Sivasspor in the thrilling five-goal free for all against Besiktas at Osmanli Stadi.

Utaka played all 90 minutes while Chrisantus was substituted after 67 minutes as Besiktas prevailed on the odd goal in five.

Raheem Lawal started for Eskisehirspor but lasted a mere 35 minutes before he was substituted in the club’s 2-2 draw with Bursaspor at Bursa Atatürk Stadyumu.

Russia (Premier League)

Ahmed Musa is a man in form and he underlined that with a well taken brace for CSKA Moscow in the 6-0 win over Kuban Krasnodar at Arena Khimki.

Musa also supplied an assist in the game as he followed up his impressive displays for the Super Eagles last Wednesday when he also netted a double in the 3-1 win over Sudan in Abuja.
